External magnetic assembly interfaceΒΆ
Non-fully-integrated FluxGrip units composed of a standalone controller unit with a separate magnetic assembly (or several) rely on electrical cables between the controller and the assembly to transfer (de-)magnetization power.
Danger
High voltage. Do not power on a controller unit unless it is securely connected to a magnetic assembly. Do not touch the conductors of the external magnetic assembly interface when the controller is powered on, and for at least 10 minutes after the controller is powered off.
This electrical connection carries high electric current (hundreds of amperes) under high voltage (hundreds of volts), which puts several hard requirements on the maintenance of the connection:
When mating the connectors, ensure the contact surfaces are clean and free of any foreign objects, including dust, dirt, and moisture.
The connectors must be mated securely. Counterintuitively, unreliable electrical connection may cause permanent damage to the device.
The cables must not be excessively twisted or exposed to any mechanical stress.
The cables of opposing polarity must be placed as close as possible to each other to minimize the parasitic inductance and reduce EMI.
The cables must be routed far away from sensitive electronics and antennas.
These considerations do not apply to fully integrated devices (e.g., FG40).
